We’re Celebrating Food Revolution Day 2014
Thursday, May 15 from 10 a.m.-Noon
Our basic mission is simple: positively impact in the communities we serve by providing basic food and resources to families in need. Beyond that basic mission, we also strive to improve the lives of families in a number of other ways, such as promoting healthy eating habits. And while we receive very generous and much needed donations of non-perishable items, those items alone do not provide the ingredients for balanced meals for families. Fortunately, we have fantastic community partners such as Walmart, Savemart, and Safeway that also supplement our food supply with fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, meats, and other items.
With access to fresh ingredients and our very own resident chef, we will be hosting cooking demonstrations in conjunction with Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Day (FRD) 2014. FRD is a global day of action to promote cooking skills, celebrating the importance of cooking good food from scratch and raising awareness of how it impacts health and happiness.
25 year restaurant industry veteran and OVFB volunteer, Steve Williams, has volunteered at the Food Bank for the last several months, kindly cooking meals with love for our awesome volunteers. Steve will lead cooking demonstrations on Thursday, May 15 from 10 a.m. – noon in the Orangevale Food Bank parking lot. Following the demonstration, all attendees will be provided with recipe cards and ingredients to recreate the dish at home.
Please join us on Thursday to celebrate Food Revolution Day and the kickoff of Orangevale’s 51st annual town fair, Pow Wow Days, where we have a full weekend of community activities in store supporting our town and the Orangevale Food Bank.
